The mamma’s from the Red Location Backpackers Cooperative are so exhilarated about the forthcoming Valentines Event at the Backpackers (their first event). They can hardly sleep and keep on smiling from ear to ear. One of them told me that she wants to dance the streets with joy about the overwhelming positive response they received :-)
In hardly two days the event tickets have been “sold out”! The event promises to be outstanding, with an element of the historic and popular New Brighton social vibe revived.
These mamma’s all stem from a very special background. They were involved as activists against the anti Apartheid Struggle, and some of them were even incarcerated for their defiant roles. One of them participated in the ANC Malibongwe Conference in the Netherlands.
And another one was a former Miss Port Elizabeth! She is a bit shy and wouldn’t like me to say her name here :-) But perhaps you can guess who she is.
All of the ladies from the Backpackers are very special. Anyone having an opportunity to enjoy their hospitality and the sharing of their oral history – would be very much blessed indeed.
For those who have missed out on this Valentines’ event, keep your eyes and ears peeled: The Backpackers Cooperative is planning to have regular Cultural Evenings along the vibe of the former historic New Brighton Socials. The venue is awesome: spacious and having ample room to accommodate 120 guests (at only R100.00 per day).
Please look out in the forthcoming Herald for a great article written about them.
